Product Overview

 The Cooper Wheelock E50SSB-W is a surface-mounted backbox specifically designed for the E50 Series Speaker and Speaker Strobe devices. The Series E50 devices deliver high-efficiency audio performance with clear and intelligible sound output, making them ideal for emergency voice and alarm communications. These units feature dual voltage operation (25/70 VRMS) and field-selectable power taps from 1/8 watt to 2 watts, providing flexibility for a range of installation requirements.

The backbox is engineered for both flush and surface mounting, accommodating standard 4½ x 2-1/8 inch electrical boxes without the need for an extension ring. A pre-installed speaker mounting plate streamlines the installation process, while the snap-on grille cover conceals all mounting screws for a clean, aesthetic appearance. Surface-mounted backboxes are also available to support installations where recessed mounting is not possible.

The E50 Speaker Strobe models utilize Cooper Wheelock’s low-current Series RSS strobes, including patented MCW multi-candela strobes with selectable 15, 30, 75, or 110 candela settings, high-intensity MCWH strobes selectable at 135 or 185 candela, and single-candela models at 1575 cd (75 cd on axis). The E50SSB-W backbox ensures proper housing and secure installation for these devices.

The E50 Speaker Strobe supports synchronization with Wheelock SM, DSM, and PS-12/24-8CP or PS-12/24-8MP power supplies using built-in sync protocols. Designed to operate with 24 VDC, the strobes flash once per second and are compatible with a wide regulated voltage range (16–33 volts), accepting filtered DC or unfiltered VRMS input.

This backbox and speaker/strobe combination is fully compliant with ADA, NFPA, ANSI, and OSHA 29 Part 1910.165 standards, and carries approvals from UL (Standards 1971 and 1480), CSFM, MEA New York City, FM, and Chicago BFP.
